All Hallows Eve

October 31, 1991 – Hogwarts

He gazed, transfixed, into the Mirror of Erised. Of all the revelations during Harry's first weeks at Hogwarts this was the most profound: his parents had been Wizards, well-loved, smart, and beautiful. Yet they were just as dead as all the times Dudley taunted him. It was baffling. He tried to feel through his confusion. They smiled at him from the hazy mirror, and he wished he could step inside and be enfolded in their arms.

1. Happy Canada Day!   J'adore notre voisin au nord!  I was privelaged to grow up on the Ste. Clair River which forms the US/Canada border, and have many lovely memories of Ontario. If nothing else, the place names are wonderful: Tobermory, Lake Coochiching, the River Snye, Wallaceburg, the Big Basset, Missasaugua, Thorold, Pentangueshine, Guelph. I raise my virtual Molsen's to you, O Canada. But it definately tastes better when you drink it 'in country'.

2. Don't forget to check out the Percy_ficathon, now posting on LJ and IJ. There's fic! There's art! **wink**

3. Same goes for NextGenDarkFest, over on LJ. My gift just posted, a dark and twisted ghost story wherein Lily Potter & Rose Weasley get in trouble in the Forbidden Forest.

4. In need of good 'foundation garments' for my Sprout costume, I braved the mall today in search of bras, etc. and scored well at a 'buy 2 get 2 free' sale. I loathe shopping, so I was pleased to bag my quarry so easily. New undies, woot! and a surprise cool black vest that has costumey potential.

Goodnight, all! It's time to curl up with the latest fabulous Snarry from dementordelta , The Black Asphodel. Romance! Adventure! Mystery! and fabulous costumes! I love reading about Severus having his many buttons lovingly opened...

Quite unexpectedly early in the fest, my hp_springsmut  gift arrived: a beautiful Harry/Charlie fic about the element of fire. It's practically a poem, and really wants to be illustrated!  **is doodling**

Welcome, Ghosts


and, I have been waiting, watching wizard_love  for my gift, and it has arrived!!!  It's a wonderful romance that ends up quite satisfying for all concerned, but especially Ginny. I'd asked to pair her with Neville or Draco... after all, it's important that Harry be unentangled so he can properly bond with Snape! But there's no sense in Ginevra being miserable, now, is there? This is a charming, interesting and well told tale, that brings me closer to both Neville and Ginny.

This is a wonderful treat. Probably the best H/D I have ever read. I love Draco in this: Slytherin through and through. Healer!Harry is one of my favorite tropes. pir8fancier doesnt flinch at imagining the consequences of the war, and H & D have some important discussion while they work things out. It even has two endings, depending on how soppy you want it! and, believe it or not, it's canon compliant.

Best of all, raitala reads to you in a lovely accent, and does a fine job of voicing each distinct character.

So do yourself a favor, and download this lovely story for your ipod.

This story is so rich in texture and detail you can taste it. Wonderful characterizations all around, and great use of magic. The mystery is captivating, the drama is intense, and the language is rich and satisfying.

How on earth the mystery author, who can really sling words, mind you, knew I was raised by gearheads in the motor city is beyond me. But Harry and his fleet of flying vehicles are just delightful.  I think you'll enjoy the romance and and its conclusion as much as I did.

I have just finished If You Are Prepared by Cybele, and I am grieving, big time!  I read the end on the metro coming home, and I shoulda known better!  I came off the train blinded by copious tears, and forgot to pick up my dog from daycare.

Now I have a house full of people, and none of them are HP or Snape fen. *sigh*

Its the denoument for Harry that should have been - so beautifully plotted, angsty and heart-wrenching. as my pal </a></strong></a>spidermoth says, "It hurts so good!"
