The amusing thing about Christmas for us out here, is that once we're past Solstice night, it's rather like prepping for a blizzard. What stores do we need to get to while they're still open, what supplies do we need to lay in before every place where money changes hands closes up tight. Anyone who might have invited us to partake of their festivities lives no closer than Tennessee, and to be honest I'm not positive of that welcome anyhow, after all this time. Back in Texas, we had our Christmas Eve Orphan's Party to do every year. Our one annual claim to the revolving holiday season, when Dominus would make gallons upon gallons of pasta sauce, and we'd feed everyone who didn't have somewhere better to be that night -- and their families if they happened to bring them along. (Don't laugh, it was more often than not.) Here, our tribe is too far, and their families much closer to them than are we, so Calleigh House's Christmas Eve Orphan's Party is a non-starter for Mandala House. (Which is okay, since I think the Solstice Party and Vigil is going to become rather a staple when we can swing it, with Thanksgiving for years when it's just not practical because of timing.) Tonight we paid bills, and went to the grocery store, and so this weekend there will be spinach dip-stuffed salmon rolls, tomato pesto bisque, butternut squasage soup, poultry pies, and loads of salad for lunches, because after all the party fare and leftovers, we're craving greens, thankee. Our Saturday Yoga class will be on, Boxing Day notwithstanding, so at least we'll have that to which to look forward whilst the rest of the world shuts down. Our Yogi, unsurprisingly, is not much of a Christmas celebrant either. And other than that, I plan to do what I usually do over any given Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'll just be managing it without retail interface, is all. So in other news, my holiday bunny is coming along nicely...it will surprise nobody to learn that the Malfoys are coming off the worse for it. I'd try and insist that I'm not actually a h8ter, only I can't point to any significant wordcount in which any of the Precious Blonds don't get a little dirtied up at my hands, so I think I had better not try. I mean I've got a couple stories planned in which Draco, at least, is somewhat better than a cowardly little croach, but not so much that I've actually written. What can I say? I never felt they got any real measure of comeuppance in the books, Lucius especially, the bloody sociopath, so I like to dish out a bit in my fics when it seems to fit. Which it does rather often, because I'm evil like that. I like Malfoys better with a little dirt on them, I find. (How patently moralistic of me...)

I gotta check the mailbox more often... today, I found cards from inell (a pretty winter scene) and swtalmnd (a pretty Snarry scene).
